Bronze Sculpting - Lost Wax Casting

Lost-Wax casting starts with a wax version of the sculpture. The wax is encased in a fireproof mould such as ceramic. Once the wax gets melted off it reveals a cavity. The bronze is then poured into this cavity to make the sculpture. This project details all of these steps of the process.

Build a Sputtering Machine for use in thin-film deposition. This can be used to gold plate an object, or create transparent conducting plates for elctrochromics by depositing a conductive film onto glass. The materials used are available to all, but the prices can be quite high.

If you need to mount something heavy on the ceiling that moves along a rolling track system you can create one on the cheap using scrap wood and a couple tracks from the hardware store. It will hold up to 200 pounds so it's ideal for a lot of different applications. I used it to mount a heavy spotlight.

Cast chocolate wedding bells from a food-grade silicone mold. The finished product is coated with pearl dust for a bronze effect. This project was used as wedding favors for our guests.
